Grinding Rock Aggregates (GRA) was founded by tribal government members of the Fort Independence Indian Community and is headquartered in Independence, California.

GRA’s early-stage operations are providing sand and gravel to support construction on the reservation, as the tribe builds-out a portfolio of economic development projects. Near-term projects include: a park, roadside truck center, a hotel, a reservoir, and several other structures that address needs of the community, including housing. GRA is generating 270,000 tons of aggregates for all pending projects.

GRA’s future-stage operations and the opportunity to scale will come from the 200-mile Owens Valley corridor, which has several construction needs–including raw materials needed for Los Angeles’s water infrastructure. Because of a lack of mining operations along the corridor, however, a severe shortage of supply exists in meeting aggregate demand.
